It's hard to believe, but it's not because of Pfizer. In fact, the drug giant, maker of Viagra and its blockbuster impotence drug, Levitra, has become synonymous with helping men overcome sexual problems.
The first clinical trials were conducted in 1998 and 1998, but the company, known as Pfizer, announced in 2003 that it was looking for ways to help patients overcome their erectile dysfunction.
After years of research and development, Pfizer decided to try to develop an effective treatment to help men with ED, the first of a new class of drugs to be introduced to the market.
According to Pfizer, men taking the drug in the United States, New Zealand and Britain could take Viagra, Levitra or Cialis as well, for the first time, after taking the drug for two to three years.
The drug, which is marketed under the brand name Cialis, is thought to work by increasing blood flow to the penis, and that it also works when sexual stimulation occurs.
Viagra and Levitra are used to treat erectile dysfunction in men by increasing blood flow to the penis, and are taken to treat impotence by helping the penis to harden and expand. The drug is also used to treat a rare condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH.
Patients taking the drug can expect to have a healthy sex life.

In men with ED, D-relaxin, a type of injection that works by relaxing the muscles in the blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the penis, may be a useful treatment. In men with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure or heart failure, the drug may be a useful treatment.
Although erectile dysfunction is not a life-threatening condition for most men, it can be a serious problem when it occurs, especially for those with underlying health conditions. Men with diabetes and heart disease, for example, may be at higher risk.
D-relaxin is given in low doses to help men who have difficulty getting an erection, but this may not be an effective treatment for the condition.
The FDA also warned Pfizer about the risk of cardiovascular problems in men who take the drug and who have taken nitrates, a drug that lowers blood pressure in the body, such as nitroglycerin. This is a class of drugs used to treat angina and heart conditions.
However, some men who take the drug have reported feeling better when they take it for a while, or even after three months, and they may have a lessened sexual desire and response.
According to Lang, Viagra and Cialis have the potential to help men last longer in bed, while Levitra may help women last longer.
The company also is working with the FDA to determine if Cialis is safe for use in the United States. It is not clear whether the drug is safe for use in other countries where it is sold.
The FDA has not issued a specific safety announcement on the use of Viagra or Levitra in women, but has determined that the drug is safe for use in women.
